Spatial Data Sheet

Instructions

The information provided on the spatial data sheets is of primary importance to the architects, engineers and design consultants who will use the data as the basis for design of specific spaces.  The information will help the designers evaluate the size of the space, the layout of the space, the relationships among spaces, and the requisite services and utilities to be provided.  A spatial data sheet needs to be completed for each space or area assigned to a department or unit.

PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT: 
Please provide the name of the academic unit or administrative department, maintaining consistency of name for each department or unit.

SPACE OR FUNCTION NAME:
Please provide a generic name for the space such as “conference room”, “faculty office”, “reception space”, etc.

USER & TITLE:
Provide the name and position title of the primary occupant of the space if applicable.

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:
Provide a general sense of what the person does or what the primary purpose(s) of the space is (are).

OCCUPANCY:
Provide information regarding numbers of people that will typically occupy the space.

FURNITURE AND EQUIPMENT:
Please list the type of furniture or equipment that must be accommodated in the space.

COMPUTERS:
Please list the computer equipment that is to be accommodated in each space.  Please indicate how many ports are required.  This information is often initially completed in a generic manner with detailed information subsequently provided by a computing professional.  Information will be used to assess electrical loads, heating and cooling needs, and network wiring.

SPECIALIZED ELECTRICAL NEEDS:
Please indicate if there are any specialized needs based on the accommodation of specific equipment.  Please list the equipment that must be accommodated with the power needs in terms of amperage, voltage, or phasing.

SPECIALIZED LIGHTING NEEDS:
Please indicate if there are any special lighting needs such as dimmable lighting or zoned lighting.  If specific lighting levels or qualities are needed, this should be noted.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS/DATA:
Please indicate what type of equipment must be accommodated in the space.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Please note anything else that must be accommodated or that must be achieved within the space.  This may refer to additional functional needs, quantitative or qualitative measures.

SPATIAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Please indicate what other spaces this particular space must be adjacent to or grouped with.  Please also indicate if a distinct separation is needed from other spaces.
